Last Tuesday we headed to Las Vegas to perform at balloon camp. We stopped off at Magic Mountain. Next we headed over to Diamond Jam and Balloon Camp in Las Vegas. The first night in Las Vegas, we decided to see the Mentalist starring Gerry McCambridge, and Penn and Teller. The Mentalist was in a small intimate setting at the Hooters Casino. Although Penn and Teller were great, some of the effect did not translate to the back of the theater where we were sitting. At sixty dollars a ticket, we were disappointed at some of the smaller effect. This was my third time seeing Penn and Telller live and it was quite enjoyable. The next day I caught Dixie Doolie's act at the Royal Resort and Casino, in a lounge smaller than Gerry McCambridge's.
Kat and I learned so many amazing balloons from Ed Chee, Ori, Ralph Dewey, Rei, and Robbie Furman. Kat also won two small evening competitions. Here are some of the amazing balloons featured at the convention's fashion show. Some of the pictures here are so amazing maybe I can turn this blog viral. This was the first ever balloon fashion show held in America. Kat was even inspired to make a simple balloon skirt afterwards. Here are some of the balloons Katie and I made:
On the last night in Las Vegas I headed over to Gary Darwin's Magic Club. There are always famous magicians dropping by and I was lucky enough to see Teller and Lance Burton. I also met plenty of new friends who were kind enough to share. The magic meeting ended around 2am and we headed over to Arizona Charlie's for breakfast.A After that Gary offered to let me see his magic collection which spanned 8 rooms of his house. Every room including his bathroom had magic memorabilia in it! One of the largest magic collections in the world. After leaving his house at 7am in the morning, the sun was just starting to rise. It was time to drive back to the Bay Area.
